In my experience, it is often people who find themselves in crisis who come to psychotherapy. Some have a clear idea of their problems; they mention stressful experiences such as relationship problems, depression, anxiety, illness, separation, grief, trauma, challenging transitional life events (e.g. immigration, marriage, parenthood, retirement), or difficult professional situations or burnout prevention. Some people report a single instance that ignited their suffering. Even, a simple feeling that causes some sort of suffering is enough to seek counsel and investigate the pain together; a feeling of helplessness, disorientation, being lost or maybe tiredness of holding feelings of anger and rage inside. There may be an abundance of self-doubt, difficulties with decision making or feeling alienated and unconnected from those around oneself, one’s community, friends and family of origin. There is a wide range of reasons why people seek psychotherapy. There are also people who come to therapy with a defined isolated question who request my counsel for a limited time as targeted psychotherapeutic work. All these and more are reasons for starting a therapeutic process.
However, it is also possible that one cannot consciously remember anything that has happened, yet the person struggles. You don’t have to know your specific problem when you choose to seek psychotherapy, it’s enough to be curious to start a process of self-reflection and self-awareness to improve your ability to guide your life towards a self-determined and self- dependent path corresponding to your wishes and goals. The desire or longing for something in life - without necessarily having to have an idea about what that might be – is reason enough to embark on the path toward better mental health and to let go of the dark notion that something is wrong or is missing. As one of my analysis patients put it beautifully in words years ago: “There is no health without mental health. Indeed, the greatest luxury of all is mental wellness.”

Psychoanalysis is the origin of psychology and is a form of today's psychotherapy. Psychoanalysis can be offered by a clinically trained and qualified psychoanalyst, and normally consists of three, four or five sessions per week over a period of several years. The peculiarity of this scientific method lies in the fact that the unconsciousness - in addition to the consciousness - is taken into account and included in the therapeutic work.
Psychoanalysis welcomes uncanny fantasies, dreams and all sorts of psychic pain. It is rather impossible to fully grasp psychoanalysis without having experienced it. Nevertheless, there are efforts to describe psychoanalysis, such as my selection of short visual illustrations which could give you an idea about psychoanalysis.
I mainly work with adults and young adults from the age of 18.

Costs for the sessions with me are borne by patients. My fee for one session of psychotherapy or psychoanalysis is 180 CHF. As a rule, I invoice at the end of the month and my fee is to be paid within 20 days. Alternative individual agreements are possible (for instance if you wish to pay my fee after an agreed number of sessions). Payment is possible in cash or via bank transfer. If you prefer different ways of payment (e.g. Paypal) or if you wish to receive bills in another currency, it is possible to discuss these requests in person.
The sessions with me will not be covered by the Swiss basic insurance. However, I am listed as an accredited psychotherapist on santé suisse (the Swiss health insurance association). This allows you to refund a part of the cost of psychotherapy needed by your supplementary insurance (in German: “Zusatzversicherung”). If you would like to use your supplementary insurance to refund therapy costs, please clarify the specific conditions and the exact amount covered by your health insurance company with them before starting the treatment with me. If you don’t have a supplementary insurance or want to change your supplementary insurance, you will find websites comparing supplementary insurances with various amounts of cost coverage on the internet.

As a rule, I make an offer for the first three introductory sessions. The package price for the first three sessions with me is 450 CHF. This gives us time to get to know each other and it allows you to decide whether you wish to work with me. Please read more below.
If you are interested in doing psychoanalysis with me and having several sessions a week, I would support you by working with you for a reduced fee per session.
Initially, there is a consultation process of evaluation when we meet in my practice. In the first three sessions, we will speak as freely as possible and get to know one another so that I can get a sense of your unique situation. The initial assessment is usually completed over three sessions. A comprehensive life history cannot be learned within these initial sessions, but three sessions are usually enough for consulters, and also for me, to process what may have happened in your life to lead to the struggles you are now experiencing and what is needed now.
Generally, by the third session, we will talk about whether you feel that you would like to work with me. Psychotherapy or psychoanalysis begins whenever you are ready to start; treatment, ultimately, belongs to the patient. I will state my honest recommendation for treatment and frequency, and the next step would be discussing and deciding on a framework for our work together. This involves discussing the treatment plan, appointment times, payment, cancellation policy, availability and holiday planning. Establishing a framework for the therapeutic process in the initial phase is crucial as it is the first step on the road leading you and I to work well together, both of us sharing the common goal of helping you towards a healthier, happier life.

Cancellation rules and agreements
Single confirmed sessions can be canceled 48 hours (two work days) in advance. To avoid being charged for an agreed appointment with me, please make sure you contact me at least 48 hours ahead of your scheduled session. I will have to invoice the booked session, if cancellation is requested less than 48 hours before your appointment with me.
Psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytic treatment is a highly individualized process in which we make agreements about our work with one another. Changes in terms of appointments, frequency of sessions (one, two, three or four sessions per week) and termination (ending) of the treatment are usually discussed personally. These agreements regarding the framework of our work together are part of the psychoanalytic process.
A thought about price and value
There is a countless number of offers for counseling and psychotherapy on the internet, especially for remote sessions. Professionals with very different qualifications, different personalities, different viewpoints about life and mental struggles and with very different ways of working offer psychotherapy for very different prices. This can be confusing for consulters, especially for those of you who don’t have any experience with long-term psychotherapy.
As an experienced professional, I suggest you take your time deciding with whom you wish to work, if you can. Psychotherapy is a sensitive matter of opening up and trusting your intimate inner world to a professional in the hope of being understood and receiving the help you need. You will gain more, if you don’t compromise when it comes to your mental health. Find the professional who fits you best.
In order to choose 'the right person' for yourself, you will need to meet therapists in person and decide whether you wish to work with one depending on the personal encounter. I suggest you to be conscious about your decision and 'trust your gut'.
In accordance with the guidelines and recommendations of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA), I offer remote psychotherapy in exceptional circumstances. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic remote psychotherapy and counselling are generally possible. Another exceptional circumstance is, for example, if the geographical distance is a real and insurmountable difficulty. I also offer remote psychoanalysis if you are based in a region with limited accessibility to ‘in the room-in person’ psychoanalysis or supervision with an IPA - Colleague.
When possible, the initial interviews should be held ‘in the room-in person’ and we should meet in person as much as possible (the IPA recommendation for exceptional circumstances is “at least once a year “). In the case of psychoanalysis, it is essential that an analytic process which is intended to continue remotely begins in person. We will discuss the individual circumstances that make you want a remote analysis as well as the experimental nature of methods involving telecommunications. There are remarkable and insurmountable differences between remote treatment and ‘in the room-in person’ treatment. We will discuss the reasons for choosing a remote treatment, as the differences to ‘in the room-in person’ treatment may affect the quality of the treatment.
Security, privacy protection and confidentiality issues must be considered over all forms of telecommunications. You would bear half of the responsibility for ensuring a private space on your side during remote sessions. We will make ourselves aware of these issues and choose the best possible option for communication before commencing the treatment.
